The Herefordshire area, and in particular North Herefordshire , is a very beautiful and historic part of the country. It is one of the most rural counties in Britain and is one of England 's best kept secrets. Herefordshire is a land famed for its cattle and its cider and is renowned for the generosity and warmth of its people.
Herefordshire is furnished with sturdy timber-framed houses, fruit-laden orchards, historic churches, glorious gardens and beautiful rolling countryside.
Leominster (known as a centre for antiques) has several of the famous 'Black and White' houses but the wealth of this style of building can be seen from the popular 'Black and White Village Trail'. This tour takes you through Kington, and the picturesque villages of Pembridge, Eardisley, Eardisland, Dilwyn and Weobley. Booklets and audio guides are available in the cottage (free of charge) to complement this tour.
We also have Audio CD Tour Guides for serveral of the beautiful areas of Herefordshire - these are in the cottage for you to use - these include The Golden Valley and Beyond; The Mortimer Trail; The Black & White Trail. Great to just pop into the car and listen to as you discover this beautiful area.
For the walkers amongst you there are many local walks including parts of the Offa's Dyke and the Mortimer Trail - both of which offer superb views.
There are many local events taking place throughout the year. Those of particular note are the Guardian Hay on Wye Festival of Literature and Ledbury Poetry Festival in June, Ludlow Festival of the Arts in July and the Ludlow Festival of Food in September. Hampton Court castle and gardens are in the Observers' National Top 10 of gardens to visit, Ludlow Castle hosts a Medieval Christmas Fayre at the end of November and Leominster also holds a Victorian Christmas Fayre.
Local National Trust properties include Berrington Hall, Croft Castle , The Weir and Brockhampton Estate.
